CfP: Germany and Eastern Europe

Germany and Eastern Europe

3-6 October 2013, Denver

Deadline: December 1st, 2012

Call for papers: “Germany and its Eastern European Neighbors,” linked panel series for 20th/21st-Century historians, German Studies Association meeting, October 3 – October 6, 2013, in Denver, Colorado.

Since the collapse of Soviet Communism in 1989, a rich historical literature has emerged on Germany’s relationship with Eastern Europe over the twentieth century. In North America and Europe, historians have been engaged in a wide range of questions about German imaginations and practices in the region. Our thinking about German nationalism, violence, colonialism, memory, migration, diaspora, Jewish history — among many other themes — has been enriched by this growing field of twentieth-century German history. Dolores L. Augustine and Michael Meng, the two 20th/21st-Century History program coordinators, request informal proposals for panels, roundtables, or papers that address Germany’s relationship with Eastern Europe.

Please send proposals by December 1, 2012 to Prof. Michael Meng at mmeng@clemson.edu or Prof. Dolores L. Augustine at augustid@stjohns.edu.
